Nearly 400 shorts from all over the world were put forward for consideration for OFFline 2023. Over the festival, we will screen over 40+ shorts specially selected for our 14th festival.

This programme of shorts features 15 Irish and International animation shorts.

We love all things animation here at OFFline, so come along and see an incredible range of creations from some of the best animators out there.

‘Small Hours’ is a fully split/mosaic-screen 2D animation short that follows two people’s trains of thought, transitioning from one memory to another. As we dive deeper into the memories we transcend into the character’s subconscious and lose track of reality.

Oisin embarks on a poignant journey through the mysterious layers of the Bog, where he discovers the buried memories of his Father. With the help of his guide, the Great Irish Elk, Oisin confronts his Father’s pain and suffering head on. As he delves deeper into the earth, Oisin gains a newfound understanding of his own emotions and learns how to express them more clearly.

As years go by in an quiet house, its only resident spends most of her days alone. A TV game show fills the empty space, yet Nana Dee’s attention is solely on the clock on the wall, making every second feel like an hour. She’s expecting someone and they’re late.

A young factory worker forever dreams in color of escaping her black-and-white world, where every regimented thought is on display, and thinking in color is forbidden. Until she connects with someone who thinks differently too – do they dare to try and make their escape for real? 

Regular Rabbit

With story and visuals purposefully separated, a Regular Rabbit battles a comically absurd onslaught of disinformation. He is not the nightmare being told. He is as shown, a regular ol’ stupid rabbit doing his usual rabbit stuff! The narrator is full of s#!t!! How is this so hard to believe?! Fake news!! Where’s the evidence?! Agh!!! He is nothing more than a Regular Rabbit!

Teacups

For almost half a century, Don Ritchie would approach people contemplating suicide at the edge of a cliff, just 100 feet from his home, his palms facing up. Voiced by Hugo Weaving, Teacups explores Don’s surreal interactions with years of suicidal individuals and his journey to reconcile the suicide of his best friend.
The film asks, can a simple act of kindness save a life?
